Sarah Ghazal Ali (pronounced SAH-rah) is a Pakistani American writer, editor, and educator. She is the author of Theophanies (Alice James Books), winner of the GLCA New Writers Award, and a finalist for the Kate Tufts Discovery Award, the Minnesota Book Award, and a CALIBA Golden Poppy Award. Theophanies was published in the UK in 2025 with the87press.​

Winner of The Sewanee Review Poetry Prize, her work has appeared in The American Poetry Review, The Kenyon Review, Poetry, Pleiades, Narrative Magazine, Poets & Writers, the Academy of American Poets' Poem-a-Day series, and elsewhere.

A Stadler and Kundiman Fellow, Sarah has received fellowships from Hedgebrook, Tin House, the Stadler Center for Poetry and Literary Arts, the Hambidge Center, the Kenyon Review Writers Workshop, Community of Writers, and others. She holds an MFA in poetry from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she was a Juniper and MFA Fellow. Sarah is the poetry editor for West Branch and an Assistant Professor of English at Macalester College. She lives and teaches in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
